Do you know the difference between needing something and wanting something? This week, work on seeing how needs and wants are different.
On one side of a piece of paper list what you think your needs are. On the other side list things you want or wish for.
Needs are things that are necessary for a safe and healthy life. They might be material, emotional, or spiritual things. Think carefully about the things you listed as needs. Ask yourself why you need each thing. Be honest with yourself.
Wants are things that add pleasure and interest to life. When you think honestly about it, If any of the needs you listed don’t measure up to being essential for safety or emotional and physical health, you can move them to your wants list.
No one can get their needs met all on their own. Remember that you deserve to have your needs met and that you have the power to carefully select who will join you in accomplishing that.
Regarding wants, they take planning, perseverance, and a slow but sure approach to accomplish. Be determined, patient, and hopeful as you work on your wants.
If the children you care about are old enough, share some of your needs and wants and how you plan to accomplish them. Ask the children if they can think of some things that they need and want and how they could work to accomplish them.
