Grit: What Is It?

“Grit” is a good thing.
Grit helps people keep trying to reach their goals – even when big things get in the way or loss and disappointment are involved. Spend some time today thinking about how much grit you have.
Make a list of several times you wanted to accomplish something, but had a lot of difficult things to deal with in order to be successful.
Review your list and think about ….
  • How many of the items on your list did you give up on rather quickly?
  • How many did you give up on, but not until you had tried to reach your goal for quite some time and in several different ways?
  • How many did you stay determined about until you accomplished your goal, even though you think most people would have given up?
After reviewing your list, which of these statements do you think best describes you?
  • You don’t have much grit and need to work on more strongly believing you can be successful.
  • You have quite a bit of grit; you can overcome a lot of things; and you are ready to learn even more ways to overcome difficulties.
  • You have a high level of grit; you can overcome most things; and you believe strongly in your own abilities.
No matter what your grit level is today,  you can work on improving your determination and ability to stick with a goal until you achieve it.
