Reading to Children of All Ages

What happens when you read to your children.
  1. Snuggle time –snuggles are good for us at all ages. Even teens can enjoy it, if it’s modified to simpler forms like stroking an arm or an arm around a shoulder and you promise it is your secret.
  2. Learning words – words are very useful, much better than whining or sulking. Even teens need to learn new words – college entrance exams will require a large vocabulary.
  3. Learning to read – reading is the basis for all learning. Teens especially need practice reading technical information such as manuals that explain how things work or how-to books that teach skills.
  4. Sparking imagination – those who know how and are not afraid to use their minds to “imagine” and be creative are good problem solvers.
That said, school is about to start, so I’m including some back-to-school picture books for young children.  Although they are picture books, there are insights to be gained by older children as well – even teens. Have teens read them to younger children.
