Mistakes Can Be a Good Thing


Children can learn from their mistakes. They can learn that it’s OK to do things as many times as they need to in order to learn. Mistakes are sometimes the best teacher. It is important to let your child experience the frustration of mistakes which is much easier for them when they are shown what they can learn from them rather than being criticized or punished for them.
  • If food spills, be sure he knows how to clean it up. Help him as needed.
  • If something doesn’t work right, give her a chance to try again – and again and again, if need

    be.
  • If he can’t figure something out, don’t jump in with the answer. Let him struggle – that’s how he will learn things.
  • When something turns out badly, ask what she thinks went wrong. Ask what she would do differently the next time to try to make it turn out better.
  • Share your own experiences making mistakes and how you learned from them. Share your experiences you had as a child and as an adult.
