Words are the key to being a good reader. Try teaching your child a new word every day this week. Keep a list displayed as each word is introduced. Think of as many ways as you can for your child to learn the word:
* Spell it with magnetic letters.
* Listen to you say it several times each day.
* Have your child say the word several times each day.
* Point the word out in books you read to him or he reads to you.
* Tell what the word means and how it is used.
* Draw a picture about each word.
*Have your child tell others about his word of the day.*Ask your child if he has any questions about the word.
*Tell your child he can be a word detective. Tell him you’ll be using the word often and he can listening for it and pointing out when hears it.
Inspired by MR. ZINGER’S HAT. Read the book to your child this week as a reminder that it is fun to learn new words.
