Career awareness is good for children at all ages. It can help children connect their school subjects to things they are interested in and improve their performance. Even if it is a passing interest, it can be a motivator. Career awareness in no way forces your child into a track. Instead, it opens up all roads for their futures.
Check with your child’s school about anything they do through the year to show kids about jobs and occupations that real people do.
Field trips? Sharing days when parents and volunteers come to talk to the kids about what they do? Art projects?
If you are interested in this sort of thing, volunteer to help out with the school’s programs.
If your school is not involved in this sort of thing, think about how you might be able to encourage them to get involved.
