Problem-Solving Takes Practice – Teacher’s Corner

Teacher’s Corner
Teachers: You can use the prompts below by having students work individually on a real problem they think of OR by having the class work collectively (or in small groups) on a single problem(s) that you provide.
The prompts below can be used for writing about, discussing, or practicing problem-solving. 
  1. Think of a problem that you need to solve—something that bothers you or isn’t working as well as it should OR Consider this problem (if you are providing the problem).
  2. How do you know about this problem? Is your information about the problem likely to be accurate?
  3. What do you think might solve the problem?
  4. How can you test whether you are right?
  5. What do you need to see happening to know this problem is solved or nearly solved?
