What Children Show Us When They Play

Monday’s Parenting Thought

When children play the are figuring out what kind of people they will be. They test out the type of person they will become. Will they be powerful? Will they be a follower? What will they do when they’re disappointed? When they are excited? How far will they go to get what they want? How will they get and keep friends?  What type of work will they do as adults?

When you pay attention to your children’s play – especially make-believe play – you find out what lessons they need to learn. How are they acting with their friends? Is it behavior that you think will make them successful adults?  If not, you can always find ways to show them and teach them better ways to act.
