What Does It Mean to Be Remarkable?

Monday’s Parenting Thought
A famous poet once said that all of us wish to be remarkable.  I think it is probably true that we want the children we care about to grow up to be remarkable. And, I think it is probably true that most of us wish to be remarkable parents. So, it makes sense to think about what it means to be remarkable.
  1. To be remarkable is not the same as being perfect. We and our children can be remarkable in one way, without having to be remarkable in all ways.
  2. To be remarkable is not the same as being happy. Happiness comes from how we and our children think about and use what makes us remarkable.
  3. To be remarkable is not the same as being first or the best. We and our children can be remarkable by simply being the best we can be.
  4. We aren’t necessarily born remarkable. We and our children can become remarkable over time and with effort.
