Summer and Job Exploration

Monday’s Parenting Thought
Summer is a good time to arrange for your children to see many examples of what people do for jobs. Look for ways they can see behind the scenes of jobs – so they know what a police officer really does all day or that a pilot has to do a lot of paperwork and checking of the plane’s safety before he or she can actually fly the plane.
Lots of dress-up clothes connected to occupations are a good idea for young children. They let children explore lots of careers, and they
encourage both girls and boys to explore jobs that aren’t seen very often in the real world. The children can decide to be boy dancers or girl racecar drivers, for example.  At this age they need to believe all things are possible.
