Problem-Solving Takes Practice

Problem-solving is a life skill. You can start now to help your child become a good problem-solver.
Give your child a problem to solve. For example: you have to clean up dog food on the floor every time the dog eats.
Ask your child the following questions to help him solve whatever problem you give him.
  • What is not working? What needs to happen to make this better? What have you seen or heard that makes you know about this problem?
  • What do you think might solve the problem?
  • How can you test whether you are right?

  1. Love this! Helping kids slow down and think through a problem builds so much confidence. These guiding questions turn everyday frustrations, like dog food all over the floor, into real learning moments. It’s amazing how capable kids become when we give them space to brainstorm, test ideas, and discover solutions on their own.
