Natural Consequences

Monday’s Parenting Thought
Are natural consequences a good way to discipline a child?
A child gets up late, so he misses the bus and has to walk to school. This is a natural consequence for the child’s behavior. It is a very good way for kids to learn a lesson.
CAUTIONS:
  1. Do not use natural consequences when they are not safe.
For example, if the child could get hurt walking to school.
  1. Do not use natural consequences when they are too hard on the child
For example, if the child would be faced with something more than discomfort and inconvenience from walking to school, like a school suspension from being late.
