Rain drops on roses and whiskers on kittens,
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens,
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things.
(From The Sound of Music: “My Favorite Things” by Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rodgers)
Why are favorite things important?
-
We all deserve to have some of our favorite things. That means as an adult, you need to make those things known, and as a parent or caregiver, you need to ask children what their favorite things are.
-
A child’s MOST favorite thing (blanket, stuffed animal, picture of a beloved family member, pet, etc) should not be taken away as a consequence for bad behavior. The harshness of doing so would do more harm than good.
